The freezing and thawing weather in Portland, ME had spawned a truly magnificent crop of icicles hanging from the roof of the Opus One studio.
The intense blue reminds me of the water in Hawai’i.
Each moment is so beautiful on Kaua’i, it’s easy to get lost in the flow of light. There’s no need to wait for the sunset moment to stop and catch your breath, to feel the hairs on the back of your neck stand up in wonder.
Sometimes I pinch myself to make sure I’m not dreaming.

Sunset on Mauna Kea
Favorite place close to town
Left Hilo around 4:45… Enough time to get over the summit of Saddle Road before sunset.
I was sorely tempted to take this turn and drive up Mauna Kea for a better view. But some weeks are busier than others and this is one of them. So I kept on driving back to Kailua-Kona.
I took my sunset moment in front of the Parker Ranch gates. If I come back as a cow, I’ll live here happily.

Casting my wishes into the caldera for Pele to read
Clear the fog from our minds. Clear the vog from our shores.
Side note… I have found that Hawai’i Nui Brewing coasters are perfect for writing my wishes to Pele. The coasters have room to write, are easily biodegradable, and have great aerodynamic properties. It is really satisfying to send a wish sailing right where you want it to go.
